  • Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC)

Found in: Whey Proteins, Natural Whey Proteins, Blend 7 Meal Replacements, & Big Mass Gainers

Whey protein is the most bioavailable protein for humans. It is a complete protein that contains a large proportion of the key amino acid L-leucine. Whey protein concentrate is one of the most common supplemental forms of whey protein, made by ultrafiltration of whey (a byproduct of cheese production). Whey protein concentrate also usually contains small amounts of lactose, fat, and micronutrients.

  • Whey Protein Isolate (WPI)

Found in: Whey Proteins, Natural Whey Proteins, Blend 7 Meal Replacements, & Whey Isolates

Whey protein isolate is made via several membrane filtration techniques, and is  >90% protein concentration as well as lactose-free (or extremely low in lactose). This form of whey is quickly absorbed, making it ideal before and after exercise.

  • Whey Protein Hydrolysates (WPH)

Found in: Blend 7 Meal Replacements

Whey protein hydrolysates are made by enzymatically hydrolyzing (splitting the chemical bonds of) either whey protein concentrate and/or isolate. As such, whey protein hydrolysates are rapidly absorbed and easy to digest.

  • Micellar Casein and Calcium Caseinate

Found in: Blend 7 Meal Replacements

Casein is the major type of protein in cow’s milk, comprising roughly 80% of all the protein.[1] Casein is a complete protein and comes in various forms, including calcium caseinate and micellar casein. This protein is unique in that it absorbs much slower than whey protein, providing a sustained release of amino acids to the body for upwards of eight hours after ingestion.

Micellar casein is a readily soluble, high-quality protein powder with a clean flavor and rich, creamy texture. In nature, most casein protein exists as what’s known as a casein micelle. A casein micelle is a colloidal particle that biologically serves to transport insoluble calcium-phosphate complexes in liquid form to the stomach for clotting and subsequent digestion. In fact, over 90% of the calcium content in skim milk is linked with the casein micelle.

Calcium caseinate is a salt form of casein protein produced by mixture of isolated casein with calcium hydroxide. Functionally, it works similarly to micellar casein. Both micellar casein and calcium caseinate serve as superb sources of calcium and phosphorus, two minerals that many active people lack.

  • Milk Protein Isolate

Found in: Blend 7 Meal Replacements & Whey Proteins

Milk protein is a combination of casein and whey proteins that are naturally occurring in animal milk (particularly cows). Milk is arguably nature’s best protein in terms of amino acid composition for human development and tissue repair. Milk protein isolate is the resulting substance after filtration of skim milk to remove lactose and minerals.

  • Egg White Protein

Found in: Blend 7 Meal Replacements

Egg protein is an extremely low in fat and complete protein source. Supplemental egg white protein is typically sold as a spray dried powder, or in liquid, pasteurised form. Egg white supplementation is a simple and convenient way to add extra protein. The average egg contains about 6.3 grams of protein, 3.6 of which come from the egg white.[2] Egg protein is generally a good alternative to whey and casein for those with dairy allergies.

In addition to protein, other key nutrients found in the egg white are riboflavin, niacin, folate, vitamin B12, calcium, iron, copper, zinc and sodium. Egg protein is a great adjunct when stacked with weight gaining supplements or whey protein powder for post workout nutrition.

  • Pea Protein Isolate (Vegan)

            Found in: Vegan Protein

Despite being a vegetable, peas are a fantastic plant source of protein. Pea protein isolate is made from yellow split peas, and is highly bioavailable in humans as well as rich in essential amino acids. Pea protein isolate is completely animal product free, and environmentally friendly.

There is evidence that consuming pea protein lowers blood pressure and improves renal function by inhibiting activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme.[3] Pea protein also presents a great option for individuals with allergies to dairy and eggs.

  • Brown Rice Protein (Vegan)

            Found in: Vegan Protein

Brown rice protein is a great hypoallergenic alternative to other plant proteins, such as soy protein. Rice protein has a higher proportion of the amino acid arginine (which is crucial for regulating blood flow) compared to other protein sources. Arginine improves blood flow by increasing nitric oxide production and dilating blood vessels.[4]

A recent study showed that the effects of rice protein supplementation are similar to whey protein supplementation. Specifically, the study demonstrated that supplementation with equal amounts of rice protein isolate or whey protein isolate, taken after resistance-based exercise, improved lean body composition (fat-free body mass) and exercise performance (strength and power) nearly identically.[5]
